HUD awards $153,000 to end veteran homelessness
HUD awards $153,000 to end veteran homelessness
By Jackson Wang | June 11, 2018
ALBANY, N.Y. — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding several local cities thousands of dollars to try and end veteran homelessness.
HUD announced Monday that $153,000 will be provided to five public housing authorities: Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Glens Falls and Plattsburgh.
The money is made available through the “Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program.” It provides homeless veterans with case management and housing assistant to get them into permanent homes.
“What we can do and what we’ve done here is to create systems and invest resources that make veteran homelessness brief, rare and nonrecurring,” said Lisa Pugliese of HUD. “That is the goal that HUD VASH supports and the bi-partisan group of leaders that’s gathered here to celebrate.”
HUD says the money will provide permanent homes for 28 veterans.

Pastor David Traynham Receives FBI Directors Community Leadership Award
A message from Pastor David Traynham:
“Hello all:
Please find attached some of the pictures from last weeks trip to the FBI Directors Community Leadership Award Ceremony in Washington DC.
To say that I am honored to be selected as a representative of New York, being a recipient of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, is an understatement. I am overwhelmed with the grace that has been on my life.
Last week I was invited to Washington, DC to receive the FBI D.C.L. Award along with 55 other well-deserving recipients from around the nation.
Having my wife, Pastor Brenda; my daughters, Kantrell and Tyese; and my grandsons, Andre, Richard and Romario with me, made this a celebration I will remember the rest of my life.
Receiving this award is a reflection of the hard work that our region is engaged in. The community and law enforcement working together to make our region better.
I believe much has been done, but I would be ignorant to think that our work is done. The reality is our work is just beginning as there is much more to do.
I believe a frame work is in place and we can foster a better quality of living for all people as greater understanding and mutual cooperation will ensure that our sons and daughters will not have to live in fear and together we can and will change this generation.
My special thanks to those who encouraged me and those who helped take some of the financial pressure off the trip by investing in my life. I pray that you will prosper, be in health and that your souls will prosper.
God bless you all
Pastor David”
