Do you want to become a Homeowner?

The Albany Housing Authority Homeownership Program allows families that are assisted under the HCV program to use their voucher to buy a home and receive monthly assistance in meeting homeownership expenses.  The program is limited to first-time homeowners who have received housing counseling and meet the minimum income requirements.

The program is available to BOTH Section 8 AND Public Housing residents.

The first step in the process is to complete a HUD approved Homeownership Counseling course.

Housing Counseling

Completing this counseling is a requirement of the Homeownership Program, it will assist you in becoming mortgage ready and mortgage qualified.

The pre-assistance counseling can take anywhere from 6-12 months or more, depending upon the availability of classes as well as your ability to obtain a mortgage.

Once you obtain the certificate for completion of homeownership counseling through a HUD approved agency, AND you are prequalified for a mortgage amount, then it is time to complete the AHA Homeowner Registration Form by clicking on this link:
