Home Ownership Programs

AHA sponsors a number of home ownership programs, either solely or in conjunction with the City of Albany or other local housing providers. As of January 2005, Albany Housing Authority is administering the following home ownership programs:

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
Section 8 participants may use their voucher to assist with the purchase of a home in the city of Albany. Monthly Section 8 payments are made to participant's bank as mortgage loan payments, instead of rent that is usually paid to the participant's landlord. Please note that the program may used in conjunction with other housing programs, including AHA's housing programs described below:

South End Home Buyer and Rehabilitation Program (SHARP)
AHA provides grants to assist with the purchase and repair of one and two family homes in the South End of Albany. Program funds may also assist current homeowners with repairs to their homes, in order to bring the home up to HUD Housing Quality Standards.

Frederick Douglass Affordable Housing Program
AHA is building and selling new single- family three bedroom, one and one half bath homes for sale on Third Avenue and Osborne Street in Albany's South End. Grant assistance provided by AHA brings the monthly mortgage loan payment down to about $550.

Stephen Myers Affordable Housing Program
AHA is building and selling new single-family homes in various locations in Arbor Hill. These new single-family three-bedroom, one and one half bath homes are in addition to AHA's new rental housing that will also be built in Arbor Hill in 2005. Grant assistance provided by AHA brings the monthly mortgage loan payment down to about $550.
